Bertram, Texas, is a friendly little city of eleven hundred people, located about 45 miles northwest of Austin, the state capital. It is best known for the annual Oatmeal Festival, its train depot that was restored by the Austin Steam Train Association, and several unique businesses that are at the top of their respective fields. The Bertram Elementary School, grades K-5, has achieved the "Exemplary" rating, the highest rating given to Texas schools, the last four years. As part of the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District, the older Bertram students attend an excellent middle school and high school in Burnet, ten miles to the west.
