Once a thriving Mississippian town, this 600-acre area is now known as Angel Mounds State Historic Site and focuses on prehistoric archaeology and learning. Visitors will learn more about these Native American people through interactive exhibits. Also included are 100+ acres of open fields of warm season grass plantings/prairie restoration, 400 acres of woods, several seasonal streams, a swamp area, 11 Native American earthen mounds dating to the year 1100, adjacent to the Ohio River. There are approximately 80 acres of crop land as well on the site.
