Beck's Mill was originally constructed in 1808 by George Beck and his family. It is located along Mill Creek four miles south of Salem. Much of the original mill that was reconstructed in 1864 is in place today. Presently we operate three days a week with a staff that details to the public the basis of cornmeal production, operation of very rare wool carding machines, and associated textile equipment on the second floor. Typically the months of May and June are the most colorful when many of the over 50 varieties of flowers are in full bloom. An attractive feature around the mill are the numerous small meadows. These tall grass areas serve as a prime location for the diverse native grasses to flourish that have inhabited the areas for centuries. Additionally, there is an old cemetery located at the top of one of the small knolls adjacent to a scenic ravine. The trails on the Beck's Mill property guide visitors through the vast number of old growth trees, ravines and down to the picturesque creek that will give any hiker a feeling they have traveled back in time to the 19th century.
