The house was built in 1903 for banker Charles Moyer and his family. Over its 113-year existence it has only had four owners. Many in the area remember it as the home and studio of photographer Ralph Metzger, who, along with his wife Sylvia and their family, moved there in 1946. Metzger used the main floor as his studio while his family lived on the second floor. Many of the home's original elements remain. They include built-in window seats, French doors with intricate details, a terrazzo and tile floor, plaster ceiling details and a beautiful three-paneled stained glass window displaying a motif of a lit torch combined with a wreath and ribbon design. But it is the grand staircase that is the home's focal point. One glance and you can almost imagine a bride standing at the center point overlooking the foyer. In fact, as Metzger's photo studio, it became one of the most recognized places in the area.
