Location Description
Curtin Village in Centre County is a company town that arose as part of a vast iron plantation, Eagle Ironworks. The ironworks was operated by Roland Curtin & his descendants from 1810 through its closure in 1921. The buildings & grounds have been preserved as a historic site. The Curtin Family Mansion can be found within the village. Built in the Federal-style in 1830 it includes fifteen rooms and 10 fireplaces with furniture dating mostly from 1830-1850. The grounds include a beautiful herb garden. The Curtin estate spanned 30,000 acres, 3,000 comprised the village. Two room log cabins served as homes for the workers.
