Location Description

ABOUT Originally functioning from 1816-1842 as the south wing of the General ‘Rum’ Hospital for convicts, in 1855, the Sydney Royal Mint was the first overseas branch of London’s Royal Mint where 1200 tonnes of colonial gold were minted. Between 1926 and 1997 almost 20 different government departments came and went from the Mint buildings. Today, this architecturally award-winning site integrates new and heritage buildings, historic structures and archaeological elements. THE DETAILS DELICATE NATURE – this site is of significant historical value. Care must be taken when moving your equipment in both internal and external areas. You cannot fix or attach to any elements on site including fences, trees or the building. COLLECTION – museum objects including artwork cannot be moved during your booking. Any movements are to be requested and undertaken by property staff in advance. EQUIPMENT – all tripods, stands or metal base plates need to have protective elements between the sandstone, slate or other flooring on site and your equipment (e.g. mats, cut tennis balls, foam or bubble wrap). PERMITS – exterior shots of the property can be made available whilst within our property boundary; outside of our site permits may be required via City of Sydney Council in the surrounding Macquarie Street or Hospital Road areas. LOADING DOCK / PARKING – Bump in & bump out access to site is via The Mint loading dock located at the rear of the property on Hospital Road (2nd Driveway on the left). Subject to approval, we can accommodate up to four (4 ) essential vehicles onsite. For all other vehicles, the nearest parking stations are: - Secure Parking - 131 Macquarie Street, open until midnight Mon- Sat - Metro Parking - 8 Hospital Road, open Mon-Fri until 9.30pm - Domain Parking, access via St Mary's Road, open Mon-Sun until midnight
