Nestled in the rugged and spectacular Clear Creek Canyon, Georgetown’s historic business district is a walkable distance from Georgetown Lake. Head south along streets accented by century-old native trees and discover our commercial and residential buildings that overflow with vintage charm and authentic architectural features such as black walnut doors and multi-colored stained glass windows. Georgetown is known as the “Silver Queen of the Rockies,” and was one of the last bastions of civilization before encountering the Continental Divide. You will find abundant and well-preserved examples of buildings and mining structures from the Colorado Silver Boom. Visitors to Georgetown included sharpshooter Annie Oakley and showman Buffalo Bill Cody, and our list of famous residents includes Poker Alice and madam and brothel keeper Mattie Silks. Today, Georgetown is a delightful Victorian village that offers quaint shops, historical museums, dignified churches, cozy restaurants, and welcoming bars. You will come across historic parks, a Victorian-themed playground, a dog park, and a seasonal ice skating rink. Colorado means “colored red,” and our warm red sandstone sidewalks are a great example of how the state received its name. The historic business district is easy to navigate using these handsome paved walks, which flank many of our pleasant streets. Benches found outside of our establishments offer opportunities to admire breath-taking views of our majestic mountains, named Leavenworth, Saxon, Sunrise, Griffith, and Alpine.
