Location Description

Castle Von Frandsen is a “real” castle under construction on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille in northern Idaho. The castle and the Frandsen Forrest are available for filming purposes and private events. It has been the site for a couple of minor films and the History Channel has done a program on the build. THC funded a portion of the costs of the 45' bell tower up the mountain. The castle is in vanilla shell state and with the addition of the last Norman tower, will have a floor plan of more than 8,000 sf. Constructed by the American authority on castles Roger DeClement of CastleMagic.com, it has granite walls both exterior and interior. The ceilings are beamed with timbers from the Frandsen Forrest and stone fireplaces are on multiple levels. More than 1.3 million pounds of imported stone have gone into the construction, some of which can be seen on the CastleMagic site. The bell tower has a circular stairway to the viewing level. The site has 680+ feet of Lake Pend Oreille shore front, mostly cliff side. The eagles make the castle forest trees home. Notes: The castle and stonework battlement walls span 552 feet on the 60 foot cliff tops and the castle is constructed with granite imported from Canada from the same quarry which supplied the material for the Empress Hotel in Victoria, B.C. The castle timbers and beams were hewn from the trees in the surrounding Frandsen Forrest. The castle has 440 amp service, water from a private well, and sewer services are installed. The deep water dock access is through an underground stone tunnel lying beneath the battlement walls leading from the water to the fortress lower levels and wine cellar. It is one of Castle Magic's incredible and unique features on this one of a kind structure. The site on Lake Pend Oreille is surrounded by the Cabinet, Selkirk and Bitteroot Mountain Ranges. It is private, very secure and with outstanding views of the Schweitzer ski mountain, both Upper and Lower Mt. Baldy, the Seven Sisters mountain range, Chimney Rock, Bald Eagle Peak, and Tressel Creek Valley near Hope ID. Lake Pend Oreille is the 5th deepest lakes in North America and the site enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding glacier carved peaks and valleys. The majority of the shoreline on this 43 mile long lake is uninhabited. There are numerous locations on this lake's 111 miles of shoreline for supporting scene locations. The owner will allow some prior approved modifications to the property and will consider some reductions in the rents for acceptable modifications that stay with the property.
