Monroe Achers is a centennial farm owned by Beverly Monroe. It consists of 70 acres of hay fields with some woods, and has Cedar Creek flowing through it and a quarter acre pond. My partner, Charles Pardee, and I have tried to keep the old farm ambiance as we made improvements. The farm house originated in 1874 and was remodled in 1999 for a total of 1800 square feet and a full basement. The garage was rebuilt from the old tractor shed. The granary has had only siding added. The barn is over 100 years old with the original beams still intact. It contains a few horse stalls, hay storage and soon a canvas shop. The big barn is an indoor riding arena measuring 60 by 112 feet. On the southwest end of the property is the creek and pond and a 16 by 24 foot shed which we use for "camping". The still-active railroad cuts through the property. The views seen from the house are of the farm property.
Many flower gardens and vegetable gardens are similar to how it was when I was a child. Currently we operate a Bed and Breakfast, stable and some truck farming.
