Pine Grove is the former estate of Michigan's 12th Governor and Civil War patriot, Moses Wisner. There are three main buildings on 4.5 acres of grounds, including the 1845 Greek Revival style home of Governor Wisner, the 1865 Drayton Plains one room schoolhouse (relocated to Pine Grove from its original site in Waterford), and a replica of the 19th century Carriage House. Outbuildings include a summer kitchen, smokehouse, privy, and underground root cellar, as well as various gardens. A Pioneer Museum located within the Carriage House features exhibits / artifacts from Oakland County's rural past. Pine Grove Historical Center is operated by the Oakland County Pioneer and Historical Society, a non-profit, member-based volunteer organization dedicated to preserving Oakland County's history and to maintaining Pine Grove as a registered state and national historic site.
