Just three miles west of West Glacier and less than a mile off Highway 2, this secluded cabin, RV park and campground has been a destination for generations.
Some guests discover Lake Five hot off the road planning to stay for a night and end up staying a week. . .Some stay for months at a time. Quite a few call it home.
Take "Five" to relax after a long day of sightseeing, adventuring, or hiking the nearby wilderness areas. If you didn't get a vehicle pass for the Going to the Sun Road, hang by the lake until the road opens at 3pm for non-ticketed entry. Sorry, we don't have a shuttle service. Bring your bicycles - there is a paved bike path all the way to Lake McDonald.
Due to shoreline erosion from boat wave action we are not hosting wake boats for guests engaging in 'wake surfing' at our property. We thank our patrons for their cooperation and understanding as we work together to reduce our impact and preserve Lake Five for future generations. We hope folks accessing the lake from other public and private properties will do their part to reduce impact and recreate responsibly.
Swimming, fishing and sunbathing have always been great reasons for visiting Lake Five, the site of Retiro Cabins and eventual Lake Five Resort. Motor boating came along in the 1950's with surfboards, then skis and water sports evolved. Bring your ski boat, kayaks or paddle boards. We also have canoes, kayaks and paddle boards to rent.
Beyond our grounds, Glacier Park is the main attraction, but there are so many more! The Flathead National Forest, Jewel Basin, and Bob Marshall Wilderness provide endless hiking opportunities. Try whitewater rafting on the wild and scenic Middle Fork of the Flathead River. Glacier Golf course is world class and only five miles away. Other options run from an amazing fun center, and Big Sky Waterslides to zip lines at the Whitefish Mountain Resort, and don't leave out the unique House of Mystery.
