A spacious, sunny, welcoming library that serves the City with flair. The NMB Library began in June 1959 as a part of the City of Miami Library system. It expanded in 1960 and then in 1961 severed ties with the City of Miami Library system to become an independent library.
In 1965 NMB voters passed a bond issue and the city dedicated the 10,000 square-foot stone and wood facility as a permanent library. It became known as the Lafe Allen Memorial Library, starting out with 6,000 volumes and 4,000 cardholders. 10 years later the library had grown to 46,000 volumes and 10,000 cardholders.
It expanded to 11,200 square feet in 1981 and again from 1991-1994 making it over 23,000 square feet.
