A major part of the draw of my building as a location for a movie is the ethereal feel one gets inside. The second floor is 2,800 square feet of space, with beautiful wood floors built in the late 1860s shining in the sunlight pouring through 12 & 13 foot stained glass windows. Built 6 stories high of double and triple thickness of red brick with a 24 foot ceiling upstairs, the whole ceiling is open with no center supports. There is an entire superstructure under the roof in the attic that supports this majestic area. A choir loft divides the space in the studio level and the other side of the space is also built for spectators of events in the ring in mind. Capping the south end - the front of the building - of the edifice is a 10 foot by 10 foot belfry enclosure surrounded by a six foot wide wooden deck on 3 sides, which allows vision of 4 counties (Cumberland, Dauphin, York & Perry). Because the belfry is the highest habitable, most easily accessible area in Mechanicsburg, T-Mobile rents this space for its communication cell tower antennae’s.
I think that about sums up the physical antique beauty of the building, and its prominent location in the downtown area of Mechanicsburg, but it is the boxing ring and other martial arts ambiance that would be appealing to any filmmaker that wants an old fight gym look for a movie or a commercial. My building has been likened to another Blue Horizon (the iconic location for professional boxing events in Philly) in the feel one gets while watching my fight cards. In the events I have held, I have received many accolades because of the close nature of the audience to the fighters in the ring. Having trained regional, national and world champions in Boxing, Karate, and Kickboxing, I could certainly also advise a producer on the nuances of those sports if the film entailed that expertise. Several commercials (e.g.: Giant Foods, Angino & Rovner attorneys, etc.), at least 2 movies, an award winning film piece by ABC Channel 27 called "Lord of the Ring" - a reference to me as a promoter and one of my Raging Bull Kickboxing events and several other films were shot in the building since I have owned it. Also, I just had my latest book on the history of my martial arts exploits since I bought the building in 1980 accepted by the Pennsylvania State Library as a historical reference to the myriad of adventures I have created in this building. Entitled "The First Church of Joerg" , (since it was the first church building I ever bought!), it lists the many events I have put on in the building over the decades.
