Proberta was laid out in 1886 by Edward Proberta, and named for him. A post office has been in operation at Proberta since 1888. Proberta has a population of 267 people. Proberta is 7.5 miles south-southeast of Red Bluff. It is a quaint little town, with orchards, ranches, and other farms nearby.
