Cartwright Grove is the re-creation of a tiny town that has become a part of Mayfield and Graves County history, lovingly known by locals as Cartwright Farm, which was a gift to the community from the late Earl and Lucille Wright. Those buildings are long gone and only preserved in a few photographs, as well as the memories of the thousands of visitors that it attracted each year. A community effort arose in 2014 to build a similar 1800’s western town, which is located at the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds (Highway 121 North). Currently, more than a dozen buildings make up the town, including a school, bank, sheriff’s office/jail, livery stable, general store, church, ladies’ millinery shop, feed store, patriotic express, doctor’s office, barber shop, and even a saloon! The saloon includes the traditional swinging doors, a stage for live music, a fireplace, and even a working player piano. You can visit Cartwright Grove any time, but themed open house weekends where you can go inside the buildings are held throughout the year, including a Haunted Fall Festival the last 3 Friday and Saturday nights in October and “Christmas at the Grove” on Friday and Saturday nights during the Christmas Season.
