Classic New England Church (St. Paul’s Church) designed by noted architect William Graves Perry and high Victorian style Civil War era chapel (St. Anna’s Chapel) located in a churchyard and surrounded by a colonial graveyard (1741). The main church seats 250-300 people: features include box pews, light-filled clear glass windows; altar area with triptych and railing; prominent high eight sided pulpit with overhead sounding board; and balcony along back wall. Entryway leads into church from graveyard to narthex and high ceiling, two story sanctuary. Vesting room, colonial reproduction library, offices and church hall are connected all to main church. 1863 St. Anna’s Chapel seats 125 people: features include prominent original Gothic hanging chandelier and side scones; original pump organ; all original stained glass windows (15) with pictorial medallions against grisaille design and figure representations. Pews are also original trundle backed black walnut for viewing in either direction. Ceiling is high, hammered dark oak wood.
Church and chapel are located near the downtown in historic city of Newburyport on High Street containing many prominent homes from the federalist period. The churchyard has a large, grassy backyard containing gardens and a walking labyrinth.
