Toowoomba's iconic heritage listed Empire Theatre is located in the centre of the CBD and combines classic and modern architecture into one versatile precinct. The theatre is both rich in history and art deco architecture, featuring a grand proscenium arch, decorative sconces, original brick walls in the foyers and impressive art deco lighting fixtures. Refurbished in early 2019, the theatre now features a modern touch to the façade as well as sleek counter spaces in both the bars and ticketing offices, presented beautifully alongside the original architecture. As the largest operational theatre in Australia, the Empire Theatre has seating for more than 1500 audience members as well as three other venue spaces.
The Empire Church Theatre, formerly the Wesley Uniting Church (built in 1877), is a deconsecrated open space complete with stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings.
The Armitage Centre is the newest addition to the precinct, contrasting the existing venues with an impressive concrete façade and courtyard, 'black box' performance space with fully retractable seating and state of the art facilities.
