Hicklin Hearthstone, built 1836-1841, is a restored antebellum home in the Greek revival style. It is owned by the 5th generation of the Hicklin Family. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places with Significance in 1982 due to its state of preservation and the extensive collection of original outbuildings, which includes a brick overseers cabin, where the overseer and his family lived, and a row of brick dependencies (5 units) that supported the main home. These include a storehouse, wash house, large summer kitchen and a quarters for the carpenter from Virginia who lived on site for 3 years. In addition, there is an original carriage house, smoke house, chicken coop and well house. Most of the furnishings are original.
There are four striking distinctive mantels, and both a Federal style and Victorian style parlor. There are also two period bedrooms and a small dining room, previously a carriage way. All evidence of modern furnishings has been removed from the primary rooms; the kitchen has been modernized. The property has a very large front yard and is surrounded by 55 acres, 36 acres of which is farmed and vacant from Oct – May, which is excellent for Living History recreations.
