Birchdale is a historic Hunting and Fishing Lodge. It is 58 acres, entirely off-grid, and has 15 sleeping cabins (8 with hot water), a main lodge, a workshop and a combination Library/Chapel. It was founded in 1911 and remained a destination spot for "the sports" including Greta Garbo and Babe Ruth until the 1970's. An order of Carmelite Monks owned Nova Nada from the 1970's until the 1990's. Birchdale assumed its original name in 2002 and has been accessible to the community since that time for day visits, overnight stays and groups.
