Located 30 kilometres from Auckland City, Āwhitu Peninsula extends north from the vintage township of Waiuku, to the entrance of Manukau Harbour. Rugged cliffs sit at the western side overlooking the Tasman Sea.
Manukau Heads is situated at the northern tip, standing 285 metres above the harbour. Historic Manukau Heads Lighthouse offers amazing views, jutting out from the tip of the peninsula. It is one of only a few lighthouses in New Zealand that is open to the public.
Āwhitu Regional Park has rolling pastures, short walks, mountain bike trails and white sandy beaches. On the western side, the expansive and more rugged black-sand beach of Karioitahi is popular for activities, including: hang gliding, paragliding, blo-karting, surfing and four wheel driving.
