BHF is a 2600-hectare property 160 km from Darwin on the Arnhem Highway. The farm was established in the late 1950s and is used primarily to support buffalo research, agricultral research and cattle research. Because BHF is adjacent to the Adelaide River approximately 80% of it is floodplain. Very high pasture productivity is achieved during the dry season using ponded paddocks. There are a number of structures on the farm as well as a dirt airstrip.
