Situated on the Grand Union Cananl and run by Rickmansworth Waterways Trust, the Canal Centre is the hub of their education work as well as an information centre stocking a range of books, gifts and ice creams. The Canal Centre is open 9am to 4pm Wednesday to Friday and 10am to 5pm at weekends. It is next to the popular fully operational Batchworth Lock (Lock Number 81) which sees regular narrow boats passing through; it is the one on the right. The lock on the left is Salter's Cut Lock leading to a short stub of canal along the River Chess. It was built in 1805 to enable access by canal to the brewery. London Road overbridge is nearby which has fairly heavy traffic at peak times. Access is via the canal towpath or a set of stone steps from the bridge. This location is 20 miles from Central London (approx. 44 mins).
