Grade I listed building. Circa 1656. Attributed to John Webb. Situated one mile east of London Colney in a private park (can be seen from the main road). The property is a large square red-brick house, 3 storeys and dormers. Steep hipped tile roof with pedimented dormers and 8 sided clock tower. Brick moulded architraves to all windows which are wood mullioned and leaded. North doorcase is pedimented wood. South door has a large wooden door hood on carved brackets. Interior:- 16th and 17th Century panelling with 19th century features. The main staircase is carved in Grinling Gibbons style (circa. 1655). Its form is of an H and covers four storeys connecting the basement and attics. In the middle (between the arms of the H) is the entrance to the hall which has short screens (successor to the medieval spere-truss). The first-floor suite is reached by the a main staircase (three flights) to a narrow landing. From the landing you pass into a lobby with two grand doorways (left and right). On the first-floor landing are four pedimented doorcases, all supposedly from the 1650's. There are also bedchambers and chapel with linen fold panelling. The location is operational and has a parking capacity of up to 20 cars. It is situated approximately 26 miles (59 minutes) from central London.
