Location Description

"MacAlpine's is one of the few remaining original soda fountains in the United States. If these stools could talk, they would tell tales about how hard the young newspaper boy worked to earn 10 cents for an old fashioned malt and of the many 'regulars' that purchased their Burma-Shave or Prince Albert (in a car) here. These walls would recite a rich history of economic booms and declines, wars fought and sweethearts recruited at the end for a 'victory' ice cream soda at their favorite neighborhood joint, then the sock-hopping '50s gave way to the mod '60s...and so much more. Built in the same year as such Phoenix landmarks as the Orpheum Theatre and the Arizona Biltmore, MacAlpine's has endurned the stock market crash of '29, the Great Depression of the '30s, World War II, and migration of thousands to the wild, wild, west...all while Phoenix grew from a small, dusty town into the sixth-largest city in our great nation. History is our passion, Creating a unique experience for our customers is our pleasure. We keep history alive in our antique/retro store and vintage clothing boutique. We hope you enjoy your experience and tell a friend. Thank you for stepping back in time with us!" -MacAlpine's History Webpage
