Location Description
Hugh Daly, an Irish immigrant, established Daly Shea Mortuary in 1918, in Butte Montana. Mr. Daly and his partner Dennis Shea established the undertaking business in the former Methodist church on the corner of Idaho & Galena. Daly Shea maintained the highest standard of service to this community. Dennis Shea's stepson Francis X Dolan purchased the undertaking business in the 1950's. Dennis Dolan, the son of Francis Dolan, merged the Daly Shea business with the Duggan Merrill undertakers in the 1970's, making the Daly Shea the longest standing mortuary in the city of Butte. Given that mining was extremely dangerous and had a high cost of life, the undertaking business played a central role in the social fabric of the community.
