Location Description

The McKinney Cotton Mill is a historic building completed in 1910 and was a working textiles mill until 1969. Parts of the building have been renovated and parts are unfinished and raw. The Mill is a two story brick structure that is oriented on an east/west basis with windows facing north and south. The upper and lower 33 (33,000 square feet) has the original floors, pillars, and machinery hooks on the ceiling. Windows on the north side are original to the building. The windows on the south side have been replaced. There is electricity but no air-conditioning in this section. The main interior of the building has been renovated and serves as an event venue. The Grand Hallway retains the original brick and concrete walls with stained concrete floors. The Event Hall retains the original windows and refinished floors. The north side on the room has wood paneling in the rustic style original to the time period. Behind the building, the South Garden boasts a waterfall, meandering creek, and a large patio area. This was remodeled to retain the original feel of the building. It is attached to the Dye Room with original walls and window openings covered with ivy during the majority of the year. submitted by: Aimee Woolverton
