Anoka, MN, 55303 US / MN
Originally built in 1900, this historic site was known as the Anoka Asylum. Built to house the mentally ill, it was later renamed as the Anoka State Hospital. During the 1960's and 70's, deinstitutionalization began and many patients were relocated to more suitable treatment facilities. In its later years, The Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center was erected nearby, officially putting the original buildings out of commission in 1999. Today, the buildings stand mostly unoccupied, however, the Anoka Community Corrections Department is located in Cottage No. 6. To add to the mystery of the site's dark past, the remaining buildings are reported to be haunted.
