Location Description

Calling to mind the Ferry Building in San Francisco or Quincy Market in Boston, Sacramento's newest food and drink space is The Bank (629 J St.), which opens Wednesday, Nov. 28, and aims to bring a wide array of food from local eateries, coffee, cocktails and more than 80 beer taps to a downtown building that was once the second-oldest bank west of the Mississippi. Bank from the 1920's complete with stately Corinthian columns and 45-foot-high ceilings. Interior extends 124 feet with walls and floor sheathed in gleaming taupe marble. Pilasters inspired by the Vatican divide a series of towering 20-foot windows reaching from halfway up the walls to the coffered gold leaf ceiling. Includes old brass-and-beveled glass tellers’ cages, which now serve as a bar. 6,000 square foot room.
