Broken Hill, NSW, 2088 AU / NSW
Poolamacca Station is located 50km north of Broken Hill. The station is extremely rugged country where spindly grass and tough gnarled bonsai-like trees and scrubs sprout from between an almost continuous covering of sharp-edged rocks The 50,000ha property was taken up for grazing in the 1880's and was a refuge and ration centre for the local Aboriginal people until around 1910. There are a number of Aboriginal artwork sites on the property. The Indigenous Land Corporation (ILC) has purchased the land and along with the Wilyakali Elders, wish to protect these sites and conduct cultural heritage tours on the property. The property is also intended to become a base for local Aboriginal artists to produce contemporary artwork.
