Chowder Bay is located on the southern side of Sydney’s Middle Head peninsula, nestled between stunning harbourside frontage and a steep backdrop of natural bushland. This former military base was constructed as a depot for the Submarine Mining Corps in 1890-91. From 1922-1939 Chowder Bay was used by the Royal Australian Engineers (army) as a depot and barracks. In the 1970s the base was used as the Army Maritime School, before being handed over to the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust in the late 1990s, and opened to the public in 2000.
