Greenethorpe, NSW, 2809 AU / NSW
Southwest of Cowra, Iandra Castle is the main homestead of the Iandra estate. The historic property was built by George Henry Greene, set up along the lines of an English feudal estate. The 57-room castle incorporates an 1880 brick homestead and features rendered reinforced concrete to simulate sandstone. The building has been described as an ‘idiosyncratic example of Federation Romanesque architectural style with Tudor influences.’ Construction of the house was completed in 1910. The current estate covers 1215 hectares, which includes the main homestead, park-like gardens, original workers’ cottages, blacksmith’s shop, chapel and cemetery, wool and hay sheds, and other outbuildings.
