Location Description

Located at Australia’s oldest railway workshops still in operation, The Workshops Rail Museum was developed on the site of the Ipswich Railway Workshops, the birthplace of rail in Queensland, servicing the rail industry since 1865. The old Boilershop building houses the museum, where you're dwarfed by beautifully restored locomotives and carriages. Other historical buildings have been utilised by the museum, including the Timekeepers’ building, in which visitors enter through, and the Trackside Café, which was the original canteen building for the Workshops. The location is also home to the original Power House, built in 1901-02. This building has limited internal access, however, its façade is very popular with local photographers. Newer photographs were taken between 0700-1300hrs. 360° photographs can be seen via the Weblink (3D Tour).
