Location Description

Woolmers Estate was established in 1817 by Thomas Archer and stayed in that family until 1994 and the death of Thomas Archer VI. Woolmers is World Heritage listed and acknowledged as one of the most outstanding examples of 18th century rural settlements. It has family houses, workers' cottages, a former chapel, blacksmith's shop, stables, bakehouse, pump house, gardener's cottage and housed up to 100 people at its peak. Woolmers and the neighbouring property, Brickendon (also owned by the Archer family - William Archer - from 1824) were awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2010.
