Construction on the Mclean Mill site began in 1925 and was completed by 1927. The Mill opened later that year and operated steadily through to December 1965 when the mill closed down permanently. It sat idle till 1989 when it was declared a national historic site. Starting in 1995 the mill site began to get restored back to its original state, the mill pond was refilled with water and buildings were stabilized. The mill is now fully operational and currently still being restored.

The mill pond was constructed along with the main mill during the late 1920's. After the mill site was abandoned in 1965 the dam eventually broke and the pond was only reflooded during the restoration of the mill site.
